The Fort River was bustling with canoes and kayaks Sunday morning, as hearty paddlers wound their way through the fields and forests of South Amherst. We were graced with beautiful weather, while the midday music of Tom Neilson and Laura Meyer drifted over the river from lovely picnic grounds of Groff Park. Thank you to Boyd Kynard, Hitchcock Center, Max, and all our young collectors for catching mussels and fish! These critters and the Rubber Ducky Race were the highlight of the youngsters’ picnic.

What is The Fort River Festival?

The Fort River Festival is an annual event sponsored by the Rushing Rivers Institute in Amherst. Its goal is to promote community awareness about river habitats and educate the public in a fun and engaging way. The festival dovetails with the Rushing Rivers Institute’s work protecting rivers globally with direct research and innovative software design. We hope to put pictures of this year’s festival up on this website soon.
